AION 2 GUIDE

Aion 2 Name Rules

What to check before you type a character name, and how to recover when the one you wanted is taken.

Availability is the only rule you cannot look up in advance

Name availability is decided server-side at the moment you confirm it. It depends on your region and your specific server, and it changes as other players create characters. No external tool can tell you whether a name is free.

The practical approach is to prepare a ranked shortlist instead of a single name. Save your first three choices in the favorites panel, then try them in order in the character creation screen.

Check length before you fall in love with a name

Every game client enforces its own character length for names, and it may differ between regions. A long, ceremonial name is not worth the risk if you have no shorter fallback ready.

  • Keep one short (two-syllable) option in your list as a guaranteed fallback.
  • Check the letter count shown on each generated name before you save it.
  • If a name is borderline, use the Variants panel to get a shorter alternative that keeps the sound.

Avoid restricted and misleading words

  • Do not use words that impersonate staff, moderators, or official support.
  • Avoid anything that could read as harassment, a slur, or a real-world person.
  • Skip duplicate or lookalike characters designed to imitate another player.
  • Different regions apply different filters, so a name that is fine on one server may be rejected on another.

Plan for the name being taken

Busy servers mean popular names move fast. Generate twenty options rather than five, and use the variants panel: it keeps the faction and class voice of your favourite name while changing the opening or the ending.

A small spelling change is usually enough. Some players also add a second syllable rather than altering letters, which keeps the name easy to read and easy for their group to type.

What actually makes a name sound Aion-like

Aion 2 names are fantasy names, not translations. They are built from syllables that read the same way they are written, they avoid digits and punctuation, and they stay inside the register of their faction. Elyos names are open and bright; Asmodian names are hard and clipped. A name that fights its faction looks like an accident rather than a choice.

The practical rules that follow from that: two to three syllables, one clear stress point, no silent letters, and no string of three consonants in a row. Every name this site generates is checked against a pronounceability test for exactly that reason.

  • Elyos register: open vowels and liquid consonants, endings such as -iel, -ael, -ora.
  • Asmodian register: hard plosives and fricatives, endings such as -oth, -ak, -yx.
  • Avoid leetspeak, digits and doubled punctuation — most clients reject them outright.
  • Avoid real-world names of public figures, and anything that reads as a title of authority.

How an Aion-style name is put together

Fantasy names are not random strings of letters: they are syllables stacked in a pattern the reader already recognises. Each syllable has an opening sound, a vowel, and often a closing consonant. Names that stay inside that pattern read as intentional; names that break it read as typos.

The engine on this site builds names with the same three constraints a reader applies unconsciously: two to three syllables, one clear stress point, and never more than two consonants in a row. That is why a generated name usually looks like a word you could have learned, even when it is entirely new.

  • Onset plus vowel: Ae-, Ily-, Karn-, Vael- — the opening sets the faction register.
  • One stress point: say it out loud once. If you hesitate, your group will too.
  • No three-consonant clusters in the middle: they are what make a name look scrambled.
  • No silent letters: every letter should be pronounced the way it is written.
  • Vowel pile-ups (three vowels in a row) are rejected by the generator for the same reason.

Match the register, not just the spelling

The quickest way to make a name look wrong is to mix faction registers. Elyos names live in open vowels and liquid consonants; Asmodian names live in hard plosives and clipped endings. A bright, vowel-heavy name on an Asmodian character reads as a copy-paste accident rather than a choice.

Class works the same way but softer: it tilts the sound rather than defining it. An Asmodian Ranger is fine; an Asmodian Ranger whose name is pure hymn is what looks out of place.

  • Elyos register: openings such as Ael-, Aer-, Lumi-, Sere-, endings such as -iel, -ael, -ora.
  • Asmodian register: openings such as Kha-, Xar-, Dred-, Obs-, endings such as -oth, -ak, -yx.
  • Class tilt: sharp for Assassin and Ranger, heavy for Gladiator and Templar, arcane for Sorcerer and Spiritmaster, warm for Cleric and Chanter.
  • Pick the register first, then the syllables. Doing it the other way round is how names end up fighting their faction.

Capitalisation, spacing and what the field accepts

Most MMO name fields accept letters only. Spaces, hyphens, apostrophes and digits are commonly rejected, and leetspeak substitutions tend to be filtered even where digits are allowed. This site only ever generates plain letters in a single capitalised word, because that is the shape that survives most region filters.

  • One word, letters only, first letter capitalised.
  • Uniqueness is normally case-insensitive: "Kaelis" and "kaelis" count as the same name on the same world.
  • Skip doubled punctuation and decorative marks — they usually fail the field or look like a copy-paste error.
  • Avoid accents and diacritics if your region keyboard makes them awkward to type for others.

The five-second readability test

Before you commit to a name, run four checks. They take less time than reading this paragraph and they prevent almost every name you would regret a week later.

  • Read it out loud once. If you stumble, it fails.
  • Imagine someone typing it into a whisper field after a wipe. If it needs spelling out, it fails.
  • Check the letter count: a short fallback in your favorites is cheaper than a rename later.
  • Search your memory for a real person, brand or meme. If it echoes one, it fails.

Names that age badly

A character name lasts longer than the joke that created it. Names built on a patch, an expansion, a streamer, a world that will later be merged, or a one-off internet reference all read as dated within a year — and you will see them on your character list every time you log in.

The safe pattern is a name that only refers to itself: a sound you like, in the register of your faction, that does not depend on the game being in any particular state. Every generated suggestion on this site is built that way on purpose.

The three-name rule

The most common way to lose ten minutes in character creation is to arrive with one name. Availability is decided server-side at the moment you confirm, so a single candidate is a coin flip on a busy launch.

  • Choice one: the name you actually want, checked for length and readability.
  • Choice two: a variant that keeps the same sound but changes the opening or ending.
  • Choice three: a short fallback you can type in two seconds.
  • Save all three in the favorites panel before you open the client.

Do not rely on rename items

Rename or name-change items exist in many MMOs, but you should not plan around them: they cost money, availability varies by region, and some characters, pets, or legendary items may be locked once named.

Treat the name you confirm at character creation as the one you will keep.

Names that pass this checklist

Two to three syllables, one clear stress point, no digit tricks and nothing that reads as a title of authority. Every entry is drawn from the same engine as the generator.

Title ideas for names, guilds and roleplay

Honorifics assembled from the same faction and class vocabulary as the generator. Use them as raw material: trim a title to its head word for a name, or keep the full phrase for a guild tag, a roleplay rank, or a character you want to read as senior. Nothing here is a verified in-game title system — treat the list as inspiration, then confirm any real mechanic in your region client.
